Summer Interior Refresh: A Guide to Bright and Inviting Spaces

Summer is the perfect time to infuse your home with a breath of fresh air, and there's no better way to do that than by updating your interior with some refreshing inspiration from our concept store.

Specialising in vibrantly coloured vintage Chinese furniture, handmade ceramics, Japanese gardening tools, and other unique home goods, we bring you a curated collection that will transform your space into a vibrant, inviting retreat. Dive into our guide to discover how these exquisite pieces can brighten up your home, embrace natural beauty, and create a cool, comfortable ambiance that captures the essence of summer.

Elevate Your Kitchen

Looking to expand or revamp your collection of dishware for summer dinners shared with friends? Consider a selection of our bright dishes, like the Blue and Yellow Earthenware Dish or the Blue Rim High Plate. Larger bowls, like our White Blossom Salad Bowl, are the perfect centrepiece for a summer spread.

We’ve heard time and time again that our high rim dishes are crowd pleasers! This is no surprise though. The unique shape of the bowl is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and gives even the simplest summer meal a beautiful flair.

Another item that complements every kitchen table is a vase. A vase of flowers or dried plants can bring any dining room to life. A study in the Netherlands even found that dining tables featuring a vase of flowers put diners in a more relaxed mood. Pair this with a colourful linen tablecloth and your set!

Pro-tip: Small table space and too much clutter? Use a Kenzan, also known as a Spiky Frog or Flower Frog, to create a minimalistic flower arrangement in place of a full bouquet of flowers.

Outdoor Entertainment Spaces

If you’re the garden entertainer type, we’ve got you covered.

For an ambient and nostalgia-invoking vibration, hang a few Japanese cast iron wind bells in your garden. These wind chimes are unique as when their clappers catch wind, they encourage a delicate ringing sound - not loud enough to overtake conversations or background music.

If you’re after a low-key seating arrangement, you may consider the addition of meditation cushions. Available in a variety of colours, these Japanese-cotton cushions are stuffed with kapok. This material has the perfect firmness and due to its natural composition, it is almost completely waterproof and bug free. Perfect for a garden gathering on a summer’s eve!

Another customer favourite for indoor and outdoor decor are our paper lampshades. These handmade lampshades are constructed using mulberry bush bark. If you treat them right, they’re longlasting as opposed to the single-use paper lampshades you use once and toss.

Children’s Bedroom

Maybe your entertaining spaces are refreshed and ready for hosting. But what about your children’s rooms?

We know the excitement that comes with seasonal restyle. So here are our best tips for their spaces!

Add a multi-colour throw, Indigo bed cover, or new shams to a space-saving kids bed for that bright pop of summer colour. For added storage, consider mounting a few ceramic character hooks. These playful hooks are perfect for drying beach towels, displaying hats, or storing light jackets.

Rouge also stocks a variety of art prints, for both refined and more tongue-in-cheek taste. For cheerful spaces, we’re big fans of this print depicting a frog eating ramen. Similar to our other art prints, it is an adaptation of traditional Japanese woodblock print dating 1814.

As summer rolls in, it's the perfect opportunity to refresh and rejuvenate your home.

Don’t miss out on the seasonal opportunity to infuse your spaces with vibrant colours and natural beauty to create an inviting retreat that captures the essence of the summer.

From brightening your kitchen with new dishware and floral arrangements to enhancing your outdoor entertainment areas with cosy seating and ambient décor, small changes can make a big difference. Even your children's rooms can benefit from a seasonal update with colourful throws and playful art. Embrace the spirit of summer and transform your home into a cool, comfortable haven where you can relax and enjoy the sunny days ahead.

Happy decorating!
