Glazed Ceramic Mugs from China, Handmade for Your Home

Our porcelain mugs, which are carefully crafted and form an integral part of the Rouge Shop Mountain Range collection, are meticulously handmade in the city of Jingdezhen. This city is internationally renowned for its long-standing tradition of ceramics creation and is often referred to as the ceramics capital of China. These mugs are far from ordinary; they are unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that have been lovingly created by an artisan ceramicist who has honed his skills to specialise in the complex and intricate process of creating variable colour glazes. This process is not for the faint-hearted; it requires a staggering heat of around 1250°C, a testament to the high level of skill and dedication required. Each mug is thus not just a vessel for your favourite beverage, but an embodiment of a centuries-old tradition and an artisan's dedication to their craft.

What makes each of these mugs truly unique is the signature swirl pattern at the bottom, a testament to the craftsman's meticulous attention to detail. Each swirl, imprinted by the maker's fingertips, tells a story of the creation process, bringing a touch of authenticity to your morning routine.

This week, we’re featuring our favourite pieces from the Mountain Range, available both in-shop and online.

Shop favourite: the Porcelain Sea Glaze Mug

The Porcelain Sea Glaze Mug, a product so popular, that we've quickly moved on to securing a second batch! This product, carefully crafted by hand, is presently journeying from its country of origin, China, to its next destination, London.

Handmade Porcelain Sea Glaze Mug

The design of the Sea Glaze Mug draws its inspiration from the serene and picturesque Chinese countryside. The exterior of the mug exhibits an intricate wave pattern, alternating between deep and pale blue. This thoughtful design choice aims to invoke images of towering mountains and the tranquil sea. On the inside, the mug is adorned with a pale cream glaze.

The glaze on the mugs is a careful blend of matte and gloss finishes, resulting in a tactile sensation that makes holding them feel like a luxurious experience. The dimensions of the mug are approximately 9.5cm in diameter and 8.5cm in height.

Coffee mug for the modern home: Lake Glaze

Small Handmade Ceramic Coffee Mug

The Lake Glaze Coffee Mug is the perfect companion for your weekday mornings, serving as an elegant vessel for your much-needed cup of coffee. With its short and stout design, it fits comfortably in your hands, and the gracefully arched handle provides a secure grip, ensuring you can savour every sip of your morning brew.

Upon looking inside, you'll find a beautiful dark brown glaze that carries a graphite-like sheen, providing a visually striking contrast to your coffee.

Given their handmade nature, the dimensions of the Lake Glaze Coffee Mug can vary slightly. On average, the coffee mug measures 9.5cm in diameter and stands at a height of 5.5cm. Despite these minor variations, each mug is crafted with the same care and dedication, ensuring your morning coffee experience is nothing short of perfect.

This unique mug, handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, will whisk you away to the tranquil landscapes of the Chinese countryside under a dusk sky. Its exterior is adorned with a delicate wave of colours: soft pink, soothing blue, and a hint of green, each hue carefully chosen to invoke a sense of calm and peace.

Inside, the mug features a pale cream glaze that is as smooth as satin. Each sip from this mug is a reminder of the beauty that can be found in life's simplest moments.

If you're looking for a set of porcelain mugs

We highly recommend that you pair our sea-inspired coffee mug, with its beautiful oceanic hues, with our taller, 8.5cm glazed mug, whose sleek design complements the former perfectly.
