This sideboard comes from Shanxi Province of China and dates from about 1920. The doors feature original floral artwork with bright peonies, traditionally symbolising female beauty, as well as richness, honour and high social class. Overall, the cabinet has a stunning burnt orange colour with a distressed appearance in places, revealing the dark colour underneath.
The piece has recently been reconditioned in an artisan workshop in Beijing and was fitted with a removable inner shelf. We think the simple design of this cabinet and its ample storage space make it a lovely bohemian touch to a modern home.
This beautiful cabinet could be the centerpiece of any modern home. Its larger proportions, warm tones and vintage artwork make it a statement piece worthy of any home, office or kitchen.
