Xiao Ying is a native Chinese artist working from her studio in Jingdezhen. She graduated from the renowned Jingdezhen Ceramics Institute in 2012 and formed her studio, Chong Ceramics. Her work shows a unique style, drawing inspiration from her love of animals, in particular her own pets, and the cats and dogs that live locally. In partnership with her husband - who creates the clay items -Xiao Ying decorates each piece with her distinctive playful and naive artwork.
Each creation is a small work of art and uses the ancient practice of applying what are known as ‘engobes’ to achieve specific decorative effects.
While traveling in China in 2024, Rouge's founder, Yang Lei, visited Jingdezhen and visited many of the local artists including Xiao Ying
