This medium seated Buddha is made from stone and made in China. The carving process carefully creates a beautiful and ornate statue with fine detail to the buddhas robes and pedestal. The piece is finished with a delicate worn gold patina, giving it an aged appearance.
The Buddha holds his hands in Bhairava Mudra (Samyukta Hasta -the use of both hands) practiced by placing of the hands one above the other, and with the palms facing up. It is said to bring a union between the two sides of the brain and the two energies (masculine and feminine). The Bhairava Mudra helps practitioners develop power and strength to keep diseases and the ego at bay.
